Jesse & Luke’s Wintery Wicker Park Engagement Session – Chicago

I was excited when Jesse and Luke wanted to schedule their engagement session near their condo in the trendy Wicker Park neighborhood in Chicago… we actually started IN their condo then had a great time wandering the neighborhood!  Though I was suffering from the flu when our session rolled around, I think we came up with some great images true to their personalities. :-)

Um, I want this mural in my house!!

It’s so fun to work with couples that can’t stop staring into each other’s eyes.  So in love.

[I saved the best for last!]

Lindy & Brian Get Engaged in Wrigleyville!

I was super pumped when my good friend Lindy’s boyfriend Brian emailed me asking if I’d be willing to help him out with his plans to propose to Lindy earlier this month.  While there were quite a few hiccups in our original plans, it still was one of the most romantic thing’s I’ve witnessed in person.

Lindy was a little excited. :-)  Ok actually, she was so so excited she wouldn’t stop jumping!

Congratulations to a wonderful couple o’ people!

Maria & Jose’s CTA Chicago Loop Engagement Session

If there’s one thing I love, it’s clients who want unconventional locations for their portrait sessions, and Maria and Jose fit the bill.  They wanted something fun and romantic downtown, so to symbolize the new journey they’re making as they become husband and wife, I give you a CTA-themed engagement session. :-)

We of course made a few stops along the way (not everything was on or near a train!)

P.S. it was about 40 degrees out this day.  Maria is a TROOPER (and a lover of cute colorful dresses!)

Diane & Edwin’s Wedding – Meyer’s Castle, Dyer, Indiana

I’ll let the images speak for themselves on this one – Diane & Edwin were married at the beautiful Meyer’s Castle estate in Dyer, Indiana, on seriously the most beautiful day!

A Good Idea [In Theory] Sketch Comedy Duo Portraits

A good friend of mine, Thom, is part of a hilarious sketch comedy duo called A Good Idea [In Theory].  He asked me to take some photos of him and his partner-in-crime, Andrew, for their upcoming show.  Here are a few of my faves:

Here is the finished poster I designed for them.  Oh, and I’ve seen the show, and it’s pretty darn funny.

Oh, and I also dabble in web design, so I put together their blog site as well. :-)

Stacey & Mike – An Elegant Modern Wedding in Chicago, Illinois

I met Stacey & Mike back in the fall to shoot their engagement session, and we hit it off right away.  With such a fun couple and the beautiful city as the background for their wedding celebration, I knew their wedding would be fantastic.  And let me tell you, it did not disappoint!

With great anticipation, Stacey and her bridesmaids got ready in her highrise condo in River North, with a stunning view of the skyline just outside the window.

Love love love love the vintage style of Stacey’s dress!

I just adore this creamy-dreamy color palette.

The ceremony was held just walking distance away at Assumption Church.

The couple’s handwritten vows had me (and Stacey of course!) on the verge of tears.

After the ceremony we made a few stops around the museum campus for some photos.  The weather threatened to force us inside, but once we stopped to get some photos by Buckingham Fountain, the skies began to clear and we were golden!

Last stop was Kinzie Street bridge.  A great spot if you want Chicago architecture without the busy-ness of tourist downtown.

Last, but certainly not least, we headed to the stunning reception at the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza.  One of my favorite venues downtown, really, with large windows overlooking the Chicago River, and beautifully clean, modern lines.

Stacey’s brother and sister-in-law sang “Unforgettable” as the couple shared their first dance.

Stacey and Mike, you two are the best.  Your wedding was truly unforgettable!  If you could hear how much I gushed about your wedding to my co-workers afterward you’d probably think I’m a weirdo. :-)

Jessica & Peter’s Wedding in Chicago, Illinois

Jessica and Peter’s wedding this past March could be summarized up in three words: stylish, modern, and fun.  The day started & ended at the Renaissance Hotel in Schaumburg, with a Chicago ceremony at St. Sylvester Parish in Humboldt Park.

There was truly an air of excitement as Jessica pulled up for the ceremony.

The happily married couple!  Next we made a quick stop (it was freezing outside) to Humboldt Park for a few photos before heading back to the Renaissance.

Jessica and Peter’s reception was decorated with bold black & white with a wash of purple floral arrangements and lighting.

Towards the end of the night, Jessica and Peter asked me if we could do some more photos of the two of them around the magnificent hotel lobby.  I love it when couples do that!

What a great day!  Jessica and Peter, I wish you the best.  Thanks for including me in such a fab celebration!

Adam & Amanda’s Wedding – St. Pete’s Beach, Florida

What better reason to blog than to post the photos from my big brother’s wedding?  Adam called me about 2 weeks before the big day to ask what I was doing on St. Patty’s Day – I told him I had no big plans, and he told me he was getting married and wanted to fly us down to Florida for it.   Woah!   Being the only one in the family that pried information from Adam prior, I knew wedding bells were gonna ring sometime this year, but it was a big surprise to come so soon.  Not that I’m complaining about a spur-of-the-moment getaway to Florida!  And away we go…

The ceremony was held out on the 2nd floor balcony at the Postcard Inn at St. Pete’s beach.  A very very cool retro-modern hotel.

After the ceremony we had a delicious meal at Cafe Alma – it was a very intimate affair.

Here’s the whole group!  (That’s me in the lower-right corner!)  Thanks to the waitor at Cafe Alma for snapping these photos for us!   Since it was somewhat sunny out, we went to the point where Adam & Amanda had originally planned to have their ceremony to do some photos.  Here’s the wedding party:

Everyone was exhausted after a while, so we headed back to the motel to relax.  Later that evening, Josiah and I had dinner with the bridal party before they went out for St. Patty’s, and I subtly begged my brother to let me do a day-after photo shoot with the two of them.  After lots of poking and prodding he agreed – he and Amanda had to leave the motel early the next day to head back to Alabama, where Adam is stationed for flight school.  So the next morning, we met for breakfast and photo time.  Here are just a couple shots from the lobby of the Postcard Inn:

We went out to the PCI beach bar for a little local flavor:

One of my favorite shots of the day^

And finally, the beach!  The sand in St. Petersburg is so beautifully white, and I had the pleasure of working with a very in-love couple who barely needed any posing for photos.

I’m so happy for my brother & his beautiful wife, and am so honored to have taken their photos!  Miss you guys!

Heather & Brian – Winter Wedding in Long Grove, Illinois

I don’t get to be part of many winter weddings in these parts… generally I can’t blame people, since the midwest is notorious for having an unpredictable [depressing] winter season.  I’ll admit I had my reservations when asked to shoot a wedding two days after Christmas.  But boy, oh boy, this wedding was one of my favorites EVER.  Heather & Brian’s wedding day started out with grey skies and slushy snowy storms, but the day unfolded into a beautiful winter afternoon, followed by an intimate affair filled with the love & joy of close family and friends.

The girls got ready at the Asha SalonSpa in Schaumburg, Illinois.  Ladies, if you want to feel zen on your wedding day and smell deliciously herbal from morn’ til’ night, you should get ready at an Aveda salon!  I was a bit jealous that I had to take pictures and couldn’t get my hair done. ;-)

Heather’s bouquet was perfectly wintry with white poppies, roses, and deep purple calla lilies.  Final preparations took place at Long Grove Community Church, where the ceremony was also held.  I had never been to this church before, and I was taken back by how quaint and beautiful it is.  The sanctuary was built in 1848 and is so well kept, and their decor for the holidays was simplistic and beautiful.

I adore this kiss.  So much love!

Heather and Brian are two of the sweetest people I’ve ever met – it is such a pleasure to photograph genuinely happy people.

The reception was held at Peggy Kinnane’s Irish Pub – I had the largest and most delicious slab of pork I think I’ve ever tasted.

I am so blessed to have the job that I have, it is such a joy to be part of celebrations like these.  Hey, winter weddings aren’t so bad after all!  Heather & Brian, I wish you two all the best and look forward to meeting up in the future!
