I don’t get to be part of many winter weddings in these parts… generally I can’t blame people, since the midwest is notorious for having an unpredictable [depressing] winter season. I’ll admit I had my reservations when asked to shoot a wedding two days after Christmas. But boy, oh boy, this wedding was one of my favorites EVER. Heather & Brian’s wedding day started out with grey skies and slushy snowy storms, but the day unfolded into a beautiful winter afternoon, followed by an intimate affair filled with the love & joy of close family and friends.
The girls got ready at the Asha SalonSpa in Schaumburg, Illinois. Ladies, if you want to feel zen on your wedding day and smell deliciously herbal from morn’ til’ night, you should get ready at an Aveda salon! I was a bit jealous that I had to take pictures and couldn’t get my hair done. ;-)
Heather’s bouquet was perfectly wintry with white poppies, roses, and deep purple calla lilies. Final preparations took place at Long Grove Community Church, where the ceremony was also held. I had never been to this church before, and I was taken back by how quaint and beautiful it is. The sanctuary was built in 1848 and is so well kept, and their decor for the holidays was simplistic and beautiful.
I adore this kiss. So much love!
Heather and Brian are two of the sweetest people I’ve ever met – it is such a pleasure to photograph genuinely happy people.
The reception was held at Peggy Kinnane’s Irish Pub – I had the largest and most delicious slab of pork I think I’ve ever tasted.
I am so blessed to have the job that I have, it is such a joy to be part of celebrations like these. Hey, winter weddings aren’t so bad after all! Heather & Brian, I wish you two all the best and look forward to meeting up in the future!
